Fitted Furniture

Fitted Wardrobes, Cabinets & Bespoke Storage across South Essex

Built for the space you've got, anywhere in the house - and finished to match whatever we've already fitted for you.

 Creative Storage Solutions

Most houses have the same problem in three or four different places. A space that's nearly right for something bought, but not quite - an alcove that's 40mm too narrow, a landing that's a foot too shallow, a boot room that's really just the bit of hallway by the back door.

Fitted furniture is what turns those into useful rooms. It's also the work that changes a house most for what it costs, because it's usually solving a daily irritation rather than a cosmetic one.

We build wardrobes, cabinets and storage anywhere in the house, in the same finishes and to the same standard as our kitchens.

Wardrobes

Fitted wardrobes built to the wall you've got

Bought wardrobes come in standard widths and standard heights. Walls don't, and the gap at the side and the space above the top is storage you've paid for and can't use.

Fitted wardrobes run wall to wall and floor to ceiling, scribed to the wall so there's no tapering gap, with the internals set up for what you actually hang. Long-hang for coats, double-hang for shirts, internal drawers rather than drawers eating floor space, and pull-out rails for the corners.

They work in spare rooms, landings, box rooms and lofts as much as in main bedrooms - the awkward spaces are usually where they make the biggest difference.

For a full bedroom scheme, with wardrobes, dressing area and matching freestanding pieces, see our bedrooms page.

Boot Rooms

The bit by the back door, made to work

Most boot rooms aren't rooms. They're a stretch of hallway or a corner of a utility where everything wet and muddy ends up.

What makes one work is fairly simple and rarely done: a bench at the right height to sit on, open storage underneath sized for boots rather than shoes, hooks at adult and child heights rather than all at one, and somewhere for wet coats that isn't on top of dry ones. Closed storage above for the things you don't want on display.

If there's a dog in the house, say so at the survey. It changes the design.

Utility rooms

Where the appliances go so the kitchen doesn't have to

A utility room earns its space by taking the noisy, ugly parts of the kitchen out of it.

Worth planning properly: whether the machines stack or sit side by side, and whether stacking needs a bracket kit for the models you have. Ventilation, if the dryer is vented rather than a condenser or heat pump. A sink deep enough to actually be useful. Worktop to fold on. Somewhere for the airer, the ironing board and the hoover that isn't the hall cupboard.

Plumbing and electrical work is carried out by qualified trades, coordinated by us as part of the job.

Pantries

Storage you can see into

The reason pantries came back is that a deep base unit is a bad place to keep food. Things go to the back and stay there.

A pantry or larder cupboard works because the shelves are shallow enough to see the whole depth, the pull-outs come to you rather than you reaching in, and there's usually a worktop inside for the kettle, the toaster and everything else that would otherwise live on the kitchen surface.

We build these as part of a bespoke kitchen or as a standalone piece if the kitchen is staying.

Awkward Spaces

The spaces nothing fits in

Understairs is the most wasted space in most houses. Fitted properly it takes coats, shoes, the hoover, and often a good deal more - pull-out units work better than doors here, because the space tapers and a door only gives you access to the shallow end.

Alcove cupboards either side of a chimney breast are the other one. Every alcove is a different width, which is why bought units never quite work in them.

Coming back

Furniture that matches what we fitted last time

We keep records of the ranges, colours and finishes used on every job.

That matters more than it sounds. Plenty of people do the kitchen first, then the utility a year later, then the boot room after that. If the finishes are recorded, the second and third jobs match the first properly rather than nearly matching, which is the thing that would annoy you every day afterwards.

It only really works with someone local who's still trading and still has the records. That's most of why we stay in this patch.

Construction

The same build as our kitchens

Carcases are custom made for each job from 18mm MFC using boards from suppliers like Egger, cam and dowel construction, delivered rigid and ready to fit on our own transport.

Drawers are Blum with soft close as standard, and Blum's drawers, hinges and lift-ups carry a lifetime guarantee from the manufacturer. Hinges have side, depth and height adjustment, which is how doors end up hanging straight in houses where the walls aren't.

Carcases are colour-matched to the doors inside and out wherever a board match exists.

Fitted furniture across South Essex

We build fitted wardrobes, cabinets and storage across Hockley, Rochford, Rayleigh, Thorpe Bay, Benfleet, Canvey Island and Hawkwell.

Because we colour-match carcases and keep records of what went into each job, we can come back years later and build a boot room or a set of alcove cupboards that match the kitchen we fitted the first time. That only really works if we're local, which is another reason we stay in this patch.
