Where we work

Areas We Cover across South Essex

We're based at our studio in Hockley. Most of our work is local, and we're happy to travel further for the right project.

Our core area

Towns we work in most often

Most of our projects are in these towns, and most weeks we're in more than one of them.

Hockley · Rochford · Rayleigh · Thorpe Bay · Benfleet · Canvey Island · Hawkwell · Hullbridge · Leigh-on-Sea · Southend-on-Sea · Thundersley · Hadleigh

If you're in any of these, we'll come out and measure up at no charge.

We're a three-person business, which means we're only ever running a handful of projects at a time and we're on every one of them ourselves. Staying reasonably local is what makes that possible.

It also matters after the job is finished. If a door needs adjusting in two years, or a hinge needs replacing in five, we're close enough to come and do it rather than being on the other side of the county. That's a much bigger deal than it sounds when you're deciding who to spend a large amount of money with.

Elsewhere in Essex

We also take projects in Chelmsford, Brentwood, Shenfield, Rochford, Great Wakering, Stanford-le-Hope, Grays and the surrounding villages. Whether it makes sense usually comes down to the size of the project rather than the distance - a full kitchen is worth travelling for in a way that a single wardrobe isn't.

If you're outside the list, ask anyway. The worst we'll say is that someone closer would serve you better.

Why it helps to be local

We know the houses round here

South Essex has a particular mix of housing, and after this long you get to know what you're walking into before you've measured anything.

Hockley and Hawkwell are a mix - interwar and post-war detached and semis, some on generous plots, plus newer infill. The larger plots tend to mean extensions, which turns a kitchen job into a room-planning job.
Rochford has the older core of a market town alongside a lot of newer estate housing, so we see both ends of the range within a mile of each other.

Thorpe Bay is largely 1930s, with wider plots and bigger rooms than most of the surrounding area. Those houses take proper fitted joinery well, and the budgets usually match the ambition.

Rayleigh runs the full range, from post-war semis through to newer detached and executive housing.

Benfleet, Thundersley and Hadleigh are mostly interwar and post-war semis, where kitchens tend to be small and awkwardly proportioned with the back door in the worst possible place. Opening through to a dining room or a side return is common.

Canvey Island is largely post-war, with a lot of bungalows and chalet-style properties. Ceiling heights and roof lines are the recurring constraint, particularly on fitted bedroom furniture.

Leigh-on-Sea and the older parts of Southend have Victorian and Edwardian stock - higher ceilings, chimney breasts, alcoves and almost nothing square. Those houses reward fitted furniture built to the room rather than bought off a shelf.
